Your go-to reference for TikTok LIVE terminology. Quickly look up definitions for whatever TikTok LIVE term you need to know.

1v1: The basic battle format: one creator against one opponent. The easiest kind to read and to learn on.
Agency: A TikTok LIVE partner organization that represents and supports a roster of creators. Agencies provide resources such as mentorship, technical assistance, monetization strategy, and direct escalation paths with TikTok's support team. Another term for Creator Network.
Agency Score: A performance rating TikTok keeps for each partner agency, built from the whole roster's Diamond output, valid LIVE day rate, creator retention, and compliance record. It sets the agency's tier, its bonus pool, and how many creators it can recruit. Creators do not see it directly, but it affects how much the same Diamonds can earn.
Algorithm: The system that decides which content each person sees on their For You Page, based on what they watch, rewatch, like, comment on, and share. How it weighs those signals is not public.
Anonymous Gifter: A gifter who hides their identity and appears without a normal handle, also called an Enigma. They can still be one of your biggest spenders.
Average Concurrent Viewers (ACV / ACU): The average number of people watching at the same moment across a LIVE. It measures how well you hold an audience, which matters far more than a one-second spike. TikTok uses average concurrent users as a key signal for status programs.
Battle Ring: A closed group of creators who coordinate to battle each other repeatedly, often with predetermined outcomes or gift-sharing arrangements. The term draws from the boxing ring imagery of LIVE Battles, but in this context it refers to a manipulative circle where the same small group cycles through matches to farm gifts and rankings rather than competing organically.
Battle Score: The running Diamond total each side has earned during a battle. It is what the on-screen bar shows.
BO3 (Best of Three): A three-round PK Battle. Each round is scored on Gift value, and the first creator to win two rounds wins the match. BO3 is the common event default because it rewards steady support across rounds instead of one lucky last-second Gift.
BO5 / BO7: Best of five and best of seven. Longer PK formats used for bigger events, where a creator must win three or four rounds to take the match.
Boost: A paid feature that pushes a LIVE higher in the feed for a short window to pull in more viewers. Separate from the Promote ad tool for regular videos.
Bulk Mute: A moderation tool for TikTok LIVE that allows hosts and moderators to proactively manage live comment sections. When a keyword, phrase, or emoji is entered into the tool, those comments will not appear in chat, and commenters who previously posted the phrase or who post it in future will be muted for the creator's chosen duration.
Captions: On-screen text of what is said, which makes videos easier to follow and more accessible. TikTok's auto-captions are decent but worth checking before you post.
Cash Out: Turning your Diamonds into real money and withdrawing it to a linked account, once you clear TikTok's minimum balance and verification rules.
Club Quest: A daily group challenge inside the Fan Club. As members send Hearts and claim their fan points, the club goes through rising thresholds that unlock shared celebration Gifts everyone can send. The quest resets each day, and a fan can only sent one Heart Me per day. There are 3 levels to Club Quest with the top one being at 50 Heart Mes.
Co-host LIVE: The feature that lets two or more creators broadcast together on one shared screen. On its own it has no scoring, it is pure collaboration. TikTok describes it plainly: Co-host LIVE allows multiple creators to go LIVE together at the same time. PK and Multi-Guest are modes built on top of it.
Coins: The currency of LIVE. Viewers buy Coins with real money in set packs, then spend them on Gifts during a stream. Coins turn into Diamonds on the creator side at roughly half their value.
Community Fest: An annual summer-long TikTok event series featuring educational workshops, in-app competitions, and community-building celebrations for LIVE creators and their fandoms.
Completion Rate: The share of a video that people watch through. Higher completion tends to help a video travel further, so early scroll-aways hurt.
Content Check Lite: A tool available through TikTok Studio on the web that allows creators to check whether their content may be eligible for recommendation in the For You feed before they go LIVE, and make any necessary changes.
Creator Care Mode: A one-click moderation toggle that automatically filters comments identified as offensive, inappropriate, or profane, as well as comments from users that have previously been reported, deleted, or disliked. The AI learns from your past moderation behavior.
Creator Inbox: A professional messaging hub for creators to manage messages from viewers. It includes organization into Unread and Starred folders, plus the ability to set custom response templates for frequently asked questions.
Creator League: A weekly TikTok LIVE ranking that sorts creators into four Divisions and many tiers and rewards top performers with a larger share of Diamond rewards. You earn points called fragments each day. See the full breakdown on the Creator League page.
Creator Network: A TikTok LIVE partner organization that represents and supports a roster of creators. Creator Networks provide resources such as mentorship, technical assistance, monetization strategy, and direct escalation paths with TikTok's support team. Another term for Agency.
Creators: TikTok's word for the people who make content on the app. It covers anyone posting videos or going LIVE, framed as a maker rather than just a user.
Daily Ranking: A leaderboard showing the most popular LIVE streams each day, based on Diamonds collected. Viewers can tap the Daily Ranking button to discover top streams.
Diamond Payout Rate: What a Diamond is worth in cash when you withdraw, roughly $0.005, about half of what the viewer paid in Coins. TikTok also sets a minimum balance before you can cash out.
Diamonds: The creator-side value TikTok records when a viewer sends a Gift. Diamonds are what convert to real earnings, at roughly $0.005 each after TikTok's platform cut. Division: One of the four bands of the Creator League: D (bronze), C (copper), B (silver), and A (gold). Each Division holds several tiers and carries its own badge color.
DM: Direct message. A private message sent to another user.
Duet: A way to respond to another video by playing yours beside the original in a split screen. Good for reactions or building on someone else's clip.
Engagement Pod: A private group of creators who agree to consistently like, comment on, and share each other's content to game the algorithm. While less formal than agency-led schemes, engagement pods are still a form of artificial engagement manipulation that TikTok's policies prohibit.
Entrance Spotlight: A visual effect that highlights a Fan Club member's username when they enter a LIVE stream.
Fan Club: TikTok's loyalty system for LIVE. A viewer joins by sending a Heart Me Gift, then earns points by watching, commenting, and gifting. Higher tiers unlock badges, chat perks, and member-only Gifts. TikTok's rule: To keep your fan status, you must earn points within 7 days of the creator going LIVE, otherwise it will automatically pause.
Fan Club Badge: A unique badge displayed next to a Fan Club member's username during a LIVE.
Final Round: The last stretch of a battle, often the final 30 to 60 seconds, when most of the gifting lands as fans rush to close a gap or defend a lead.
Finger Heart: A small, popular low-cost Gift worth 5 Coins.
Follow-for-Follow (F4F): A hollow engagement loop where creators agree to follow each other purely to inflate follower counts, with no genuine interest in each other's content. TikTok treats this as artificial engagement manipulation because it tricks the algorithm without building a real audience that watches or supports LIVEs.
Forced Battle Loss: A situation where a creator deliberately loses a Battle, often by instructing their audience not to send gifts or by sandbagging, to manipulate rankings, avoid appearing too dominant, or fulfill an arrangement with another creator. This is a form of match manipulation and violates TikTok's policies on authentic engagement.
Fragments: The points that drive Creator League movement. You gain or lose them daily based on where you finish. Four fragments move you up one tier, and losing four moves you down.
Free-for-All: A battle where every creator competes on their own with no teams.
FYP: The For You Page, the feed you land on when you open TikTok. A strong LIVE can surface here, which is where most new viewers come from.
Galaxy: A mid-range Gift worth 1,000 Coins
Gift Combo: Sending the same Gift quickly several times in a row. Combos stack fast and are a common way gifters run up a score in the final seconds of a battle.
Gift Recycling: A scheme where creators or agencies send gifts back and forth to each other to inflate Diamond totals and League rankings without genuine viewer support. The Diamonds are effectively washed through the system, creating the illusion of popularity that doesn't exist. TikTok's fraud detection flags this as artificial engagement manipulation.
Gift Value: The Coin price of a Gift.
Gifter: A viewer who buys Coins and sends Gifts during a LIVE. Gifters are the direct income source of a stream.
Gifter Level: A ranking system that rewards viewers for sending Gifts during LIVE streams. Every Gift sent translates into Experience Points (XP), which allow users to level up, unlock exclusive features, and earn unique badges. Higher levels unlock access to more expensive Gifts.
Grow Party: A LIVE stream dedicated entirely to follow-for-follow, like-for-like, or other engagement-swapping activities. These streams exist solely to inflate numbers rather than create meaningful content, and TikTok treats them as inauthentic engagement. They are best to avoid.
GRWM: Get ready with me. A video of someone getting dressed, doing makeup, or getting ready while they talk.
Heart Me Gift: A low-cost (one cent) Gift with a special job: sending it as a standalone action enrolls the viewer in the creator's Fan Club. It is the only Gift that starts membership, which marks it as the entry point to the loyalty system.
HM: How much. Common in shopping streams to ask a price.
Hook: The opening seconds of a video built to stop the scroll, often a bold line or a question. Worth testing, though not every creator leans on them.
Interactive Gifts: Gifts that trigger special on screen effects when sent. Includes Style Gifts (props or accessories the creator can wear) and Appreciation Gifts (custom animations). They increase viewer engagement beyond just the Diamond value.
Keyword Filter: A moderation setting that automatically hides chat messages containing specific words, phrases, or emojis. Creators can add up to 200 terms to the filter list, and commenters who post filtered content may be muted for a chosen duration.
League Shield: A free safety net that stops you from losing a fragment on a bad day. It fires automatically the moment you would drop a fragment. Shields never expire, and you can hold up to ten at once. More detail on the Creator League page.
Level-Up Celebration: An on-screen announcement that appears when a Fan Club member reaches a new level and sends a special gift, displayed during the LIVE.
Lion: A premium Gift, with a screen-filling animation and a large Diamond payout from a single send.
LIVE: A real-time broadcast on TikTok where a creator streams to viewers who can watch, comment, and send Gifts.
LIVE Analytics: Performance data TikTok provides for each LIVE session. Key metrics include number of viewers, new followers gained during the broadcast, and engagement such as comments and Gifts received. Helps creators understand what works and what doesn't.
LIVE Battle: TikTok's official name for the competitive format where two rooms are matched and viewers push their side's score with Gifts. The higher Diamond total when the timer ends wins. Creators may also call it a PK.
LIVE Campaigns: Official promotional events organized by TikTok, often featuring user tasks, challenges, and leaderboards to drive engagement, discoverability, and community participation.
LIVE Dashboard (formerly LIVE Console): The control panel for managing your LIVE sessions. It includes metrics tracking (viewers, GMV), product management, stream settings, and performance summaries.
LIVE Events: Broadcasts a creator schedules ahead of time so followers get a notification and can plan to attend. Scheduling turns a stream into an appointment instead of a surprise.
LIVE Gifts: The feature that lets viewers send virtual Gifts during a LIVE, which convert to Diamonds for the creator. Requires the creator to be 18+, eligible to go LIVE, and in good standing.
LIVE Highlights: A tool that automatically creates short videos from the best-performing moments of your LIVE session. Available to all creators and sellers to extend the life of their broadcast content.
LIVE Match (Solo, Team, Specific-Gift): TikTok's competition layer on top of Co-host: A LIVE match is a co-host mode feature allowing participants to complete challenges against each other as individuals or on a team. In a Solo match each creator is scored on their own. In a Team match, grouped creators share a combined score. In a Specific-Gift match, only one chosen Gift type counts toward the result, though other Gifts still credit Diamonds.
LIVE Pro: An upgraded LIVE account status and badge that unlocks deeper analytics, fuller broadcasting tools like scheduled events and desktop streaming, and the monetization layer used by partner programs. Requirements vary by region, and the badge can be removed after a slump in audience or activity.
LIVE Recordings: Full recordings of your finished LIVE sessions, accessible via LIVE Center. You can clip, edit, download, or share them.
LIVE Replay: An automatic recording of a finished LIVE, shown on the creator's profile for up to 30 days. Viewers can watch, like, and follow, but they cannot send Gifts, and a Replay does not add valid LIVE days or count toward rewards. Its value is picking up new followers later.
LIVE Shopping: An e-commerce format inside TikTok LIVE where sellers demonstrate products in real time and viewers buy through a pinned cart icon without leaving the broadcast. The seller talks, models items, and answers comments live.
LIVE Stickers: Dynamic visual elements you can add to your stream in real time. Includes countdowns, product tags, promotional cues, text stickers ("Follow Me", "Welcome"), and image stickers.
LIVE Streak: A feature that encourages creators to go LIVE on consecutive days. The "Runtunan Api" (Fire Streak) feature in some regions rewards consistent daily streaming.
LIVE Studio: TikTok's official desktop broadcasting application for Windows and macOS. It lets creators go live from a PC with built-in scene layouts, camera and mic configuration, screen sharing, and basic stream analytics. Requires at least 1,000 followers to access.
LIVE Subscription: A monthly paid membership a viewer buys for a specific creator, unlocking perks like a badge, custom emotes, and subscriber-only chat. It is separate from one-off gifting.
LIVE Title: The short, attention-grabbing headline a creator sets before going LIVE. It appears to potential viewers in their feed and is a key factor in whether they tap in.
LIVE Trial: A short evaluation period for creators newly joining a partner agency, usually a handful of LIVEs over one to two weeks. It gives TikTok the signal to validate the account and start counting Diamonds toward monthly settlement.
Lurker: A viewer who watches a LIVE without liking, commenting, or gifting. Quiet, but still part of your view count.
Moderator: A viewer the creator appoints to manage chat during a LIVE. Mods can mute or block viewers, remove inappropriate comments, and report users. They are identified by a special badge or icon next to their username.
Multi-Guest: A format that puts several creators in one LIVE room at once, each in their own tile with their own Gift attribution, up to nine guests. While often collaborative, it can also host Multi-Guest Battles where creators compete in teams or free-for-all, with individual scores tracked per tile. It is a common way to introduce new creators to an audience.
Multi-Way Battle: A battle with three or more creators competing at once in a grid, each tracking their own score. Different from Multi-Guest, where guests share a room rather than compete.
Mutuals: Two accounts that follow each other.
OOTD: Outfit of the day, used to show off what someone is wearing.
Peak Concurrent Users (PCU): The highest number of viewers watching at the same time during a LIVE. It looks impressive but says little about how well you held the room, so treat it as a headline number, not a health check.
Picture-in-Picture (PiP): A display mode where the LIVE stream continues in a small window while you use other apps on your device, allowing viewers to keep watching while multitasking.
Pinned Video: A video fixed to the top of your profile so new visitors see it first. Useful for showing what your content is about.
PK Battle: A one-on-one LIVE Battle. Two creators compete to collect more Gift value before a short timer ends. PK comes from Player Kill, a gaming term for direct one-versus-one play that carried over from earlier streaming communities.
Platform Cut: The share TikTok keeps on every Gift, commonly put at around half of the Coin value. Any agency split comes out of what is left, not on top of the Coin price.
Poll: A real-time engagement feature that lets creators pose a multiple-choice question to viewers. Results display instantly on screen, driving interaction and letting the audience shape the direction of the broadcast.
Popular LIVE Ranking: A separate ranking system where "Become Popular" Gifts count double during Popularity Hour (8-9 PM local time). Ranking points only, not Diamonds.
Popularity Hour: A daily window, around 8 to 9 PM in the creator's own local time, when Become Popular Gifts count double toward the Popular LIVE ranking. The multiplier applies to ranking points only, not to Diamond earnings. Scheduling a LIVE across the full hour is a high-value timing choice.
POV: Point of view. Marks a video meant to be watched as if you are in a specific situation. Often misused, which can make it confusing.
Promote: TikTok's built-in advertising tool that lets creators pay to boost their LIVE stream to a larger, targeted audience beyond their existing followers.
Promotion Announcement: The on-screen banner that appears when you reach a higher League, telling your viewers in real time. Many creators treat it as a moment to celebrate on camera.
Q&A (Question and Answer): An interactive tool that lets creators formally answer viewer questions during a LIVE. Questions appear in a separate panel, making it easy to see and respond to them without scrolling through chat. Useful for educational, interview, or advice streams.
Rank-Up: Crossing a monthly Diamond threshold to move into the next tier of TikTok's partner program. Rank-up depends on both Diamonds and valid LIVE days. Plan it with the Rank-Up Calculator.
Ratio: When a reply or reaction outweighs the thing it responds to, usually more replies than likes on a comment. Often a sign a take did not land well.
Recharge: Topping up your Coin balance. Viewers recharge Coins with real money before they can send Gifts.
Reciprocity Scheme: An arrangement where creators agree to gift each other in exchange for the same treatment, often with the expectation that viewers will follow suit. While natural reciprocity between creators and viewers is normal, organized reciprocity schemes are a form of engagement manipulation that TikTok actively discourages.
Room: TikTok's internal name for a single LIVE session. Starting a new LIVE creates a fresh room, and it cannot be joined once the broadcast ends.
Room ID: The numeric ID for a specific LIVE session. Recording and analytics tools use it to find the stream, and it changes every time a creator starts a new LIVE.
Rose: The classic 1-Coin Gift and the most common one sent.
RTMP Server URL: The server address that tells external broadcasting software (like OBS Studio or Streamlabs) where to send your video stream to reach TikTok's servers. Used together with your Stream Key to go LIVE from a PC.
Scaled LIVE Rewards (Evolutive Rewards): TikTok's performance-based reward model that replaced the old flat 50 percent redemption. Your share can rise up to 53 percent by clearing missions: up to 40 percent per LIVE (mostly for streaming at least 25 minutes, plus a little for new followers) and up to 13 percent weekly (valid LIVE days, a Creator League promotion or defense, and active Fan Club members).
Shares: When viewers send your LIVE or video to other people. Shares widen reach and are one of the stronger engagement signals.
Simulcasting / Multicasting: Streaming the same LIVE session simultaneously on TikTok and another platform. Also called Multistreaming.
Stitch: A response format that clips a piece of someone else's video and continues it with your own. Prompt-style Stitches often spread fast.
Story: A short, casual post that disappears after 24 hours. Used more for quick, in-the-moment updates than polished content.
Stream Key: A unique alphanumeric code that authenticates your connection between external broadcasting software (like OBS Studio or Streamlabs) and your TikTok account. Used together with the RTMP Server URL to go LIVE. A new key is generated each session. You can use an OBS Stream Key to go LIVE from your PC and/or multistream.
Subathon: A LIVE format where new subscriptions or Gifts add time to the clock, so the stream keeps running as long as support keeps coming. Subathons often last many hours or even days.
Super Fan: A paid subscriber that gains perks like special emotes and other perks determined by the streamer. Super Fans can gift Treasure Chests.
Taps: Rapid screen taps during a LIVE that send hearts, TikTok's version of likes. They show energy but are not the same as Gifts.
Text-to-Speech (TTS): A feature that reads on-screen text aloud in a chosen synthetic voice. Handy when you would rather not record a voiceover, and some voices add humor.
Tier: A step on a ladder, and the word is used two ways. In the Creator League, a tier is a rung inside a Division, like B5 or A2. In the partner program, a tier is a monthly Diamond band you climb by producing more Diamonds. The Rank-Up Calculator shows the Diamond bands.
TikData: A third-party analytics tool for LIVE creators that tracks gifters across streams, showing who your top supporters are, how much they have sent, and when they last showed up. Used to spot big spenders and win back regulars who have gone quiet.
TikFinity: A popular third-party tool for LIVE creators that adds overlays, alerts, chat commands, and gift-triggered actions to a stream. Often paired with OBS so the stream reacts to gifts, follows, and events on screen automatically.
TikRec: A third-party tool that records TikTok LIVEs straight from the source, so the file arrives as a clean MP4 with no screen-capture quality loss and no TikTok watermark. Handy for saving battles, clipping later, or keeping a copy of a LIVE that has no Replay.
Top Gifter: A viewer's rank by how much they have gifted you over a stream, a period, or all time. TikTok shows a top three on screen.
Treasure Chest: A feature that lets viewers purchase and gift a monthly LIVE Subscription to another viewer. The recipient receives subscriber perks such as badges, exclusive emotes, and subscriber-only chat access, without paying for it themselves. The chest appears in the upper left of the screen with a countdown timer, and when the timer runs out the first viewer to click it receives the subscription. It was previously called Gift a Subscription.
Troll: A viewer who joins to disrupt, bait, or spam rather than take part in good faith. Moderators and keyword filters exist mainly to handle them.
Universe: One of the largest standard Gifts. A Universe is a headline moment worth hundreds of dollars in Coins.
Valid LIVE Days: Days that count toward monthly reward targets. A day usually counts once a LIVE runs at least the minimum length TikTok tracks, commonly 25 minutes, from an account in good standing. Diamonds set your income, but valid LIVE days unlock the tier bonus, so a huge one-night total with too few days can still miss the payout.
Whale: A high-spending gifter who can send the largest Gifts, like a Lion or a TikTok Universe, on their own. A single whale can decide a close PK, so a room that leans on one whale carries real concentration risk.
Win Trading: The practice of creators agreeing to let each other win Battles in exchange for future favors, gifts, or reciprocal losses. Similar to match-fixing in sports, win trading distorts the competitive integrity of LIVE Battles and is treated as inauthentic engagement.
